Free time to enjoy Hobbies and Activities

It isn’t only during lesson time that boys are learning. With Prep completed early in the day there is plenty of prime afternoon time available for boys to experience a range of activities.

Daily periods of unstructured free time and ‘Rest’ provide the boys with quiet times to read or perhaps to pursue their special interests. These supervised times are ideal for the boys to get together and share their knowledge and enthusiasm with their friends.

Each Wednesday there is a formal Hobbies Hour when each member of staff offers a Club. This is an opportunity for boys to branch out and try something new. For some children though this will be a time to enjoy an extended practical session in the art room, design and technology centre, science block, the ICT suite or the Music Room.

Friday night is entertainment night at Woodcote with a range of planned and
impromptu activities for boys to enjoy - from street dancing, karate and bingo to concerts, lectures and science theatre.

On Sundays our Boarders enjoy outings off site.  Woodcote is conveniently situated close to a number of amenities including Bracknell Ski Centre, Guildford Leisure Centre and The Lookout Discovery Centre. The boys have particularly enjoyed rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, sailing and horse racing.

At Woodcote we like to think we know what makes young boys tick.  Parents had better look away now…

In the heart of the main building, past Red Lane, down a narrow set of steep steps lies the White Cellar, regular haunt of the Warhammer model makers and gamers. Here models are crafted and dioramas created to be left undisturbed till the next burst of creative activity.

Summertime sees the boys go “hutting” and make good use of the wooded area of the school grounds. Boys build their own mini-camps and experiment with ‘cooking’ – the frying of potatoes on camp fires.

A number of boys get together regularly to enjoy a highly practical application of mathematics …These boys are members of the Woodcote Turf Club and as adept at assessing form as they are calculating the odds.

Other hobbies enjoyed by the boys during the year include cricket club, cookery, croquet, chess, Sudoko, electronics club and card and board games, film club and wildlife club.
